Are Sweepstakes Worth Entering with Microsoft Rewards Points

The sweepstakes offer Microsoft Rewards users the chance to earn prizes by cashing in their points. There are numerous types of sweepstakes that users can win. Winners can range from Xbox consoles, Surface Laptops, prepaid gift cards, concert tickets, and so much more.

In this post, I share only my experience as someone who has never won anything meaningful through the rewards program by chance. Instead, I’d rather cash in my points for an outcome I can count on, like DoorDash or a similar program. Also, I share the quick math showing how likely you are to be a winner based on the eye test on Reddit.

Key Takeaways

  • What are Sweepstakes in Microsoft Rewards? Microsoft Rewards offers chances to win a wide variety of prizes by redeeming your points in a lottery-type chance. Rewards could be gift cards, Xbox hardware, concert tickets, and so much more.
  • What is the Cost? Every sweepstakes has a different entry fee. A basic breakdown is that one entry to win a prize costs 100 of your MS points.
  • Do People Actually Win? Yes, I’m active on the Microsoft Rewards reddit page, and I see a few winners every week posting their message saying they won.
  • Do I Participate in These? No, I’d rather save my earned points for a DoorDash or similar $25 gift card. I’m confident that I can earn about $125 on DoorDash each year, compared to a less than 1% chance of winning any sweepstakes. Let alone a sweepstakes that earns more than what I put in.

The Cost to Play

The Cost to Play in Microsoft Rewards

Every Redeem (sweepstakes) offer on Microsoft Rewards has a different number of entries and the number of points it costs. To illustrate that, I took a screenshot of the $5,000 Prepaid Gift Cards item to show how many times you can redeem your points to get chances of winning

As you can see, you can have one, five, or twenty-five entries to get a chance to win. Here is the breakdown of that offer via the points you will need to redeem

  • 1 Entry = 100 Points
  • 5 Entries = 250 Points
  • 25 Entries = 500 Points

Below is another redeem that is worth anywhere between $10 and $250 USD for winning. One entry of that is 50 of your points

Here’s Why I Don’t Participate in These Sweepstakes on Microsoft Rewards

On average, I earn around 400-550 points per day from Microsoft Rewards as of June 2026. That means I average around 15,000 points per month after making sure I perform all of my check-ins, daily streak bonuses, explore tasks, max searches on mobile and desktop, reading the news, and more.

Most of the goals I redeem are for DoorDash or similar programs. As of June 2026, I can redeem 35,000 Microsoft Rewards points for a $25 DoorDash gift card. In fact, there is a new feature that lets you choose a custom option to redeem your points for $15-$100.

If I average around 15,000 points per month, I should be able to get 5 $25 DoorDash Gift Cards through this program. That, for me, is something I can guarantee, as I’m able to hit these points because I work from home. When I look at the odds of winning any of these sweepstakes, I know they are incredibly low, and it is an easy way for me to lose my points, all in a matter of chance. Instead, I want to be able to earn my points and use them for something I have control over: DoorDash gift cards.

Don’t People Win These Sweepstakes?

I’m active on the Microsoft Rewards Reddit account, so I see weekly winners there all of the time. Here is a link to someone winning a Microsoft Xbox Controller in June 2026. Here is another link to someone winning a $100 gift card to the Xbox store. I definitely see that people do win these sweepstakes, but this is where I take the analysis to a basic level.

Winners Posting on Reddit is less than 1%

As of June 2026, I see that around 55k members subscribe to that Reddit page, and about 1k actively check in each week. If I’m seeing five winners a week, that means the winners who win are less than 1%. In fact, the percentage comes out to 0.45% that someone is a winner.

Now, we all know that not everyone will post on Reddit, and that not everyone on Microsoft Rewards is on Reddit. However, I use this quick percentage to show that there are 1k weekly contributions to this Reddit page, including people who have won. When you break it down by your eye test, how many people post that they won? I gave a liberal number of five a week, since it ranges from really anything; you get a small percentage of posts talking about winners.
